Updates To Our RV With Little Cost

Where do I begin? We have done a few updates and I am very happy with all of them, which from what I hear is hard to do! You, know, make me happy enough to not do something else or start over. I'll start with the easiest one...

No Dining Room: While this one was super easy, we spent only money for the fabric to cover the two existing toy boxes we had in the house. This keeps all of our shoes in one place! The little kids have one "shoe box" and Sean, Kevin and I have the other one.  The dining room table didn't seat all of us anyway, so we took it out. It is now Matt's new dining room table for his apartment. I did buy little floor trays for the kids to eat on and one day I'll have to buy 3 more for us and those rainy days when we can't sit on the picnic table outside at the campsites or on our big picnic pad that Faith begged us to get!

Our Bed/Couch:  This is where the sofa bed was when we purchased the RV. This project was free for us to do! It was made from one of the bunk beds that we got a few years ago from Ikea. We modified it to go from this twin size couch to a king size bed. It's really neat and very comfy. Best of all we got to use the memory foam mattress that the kids had on their beds. I stained it and I had the stain here, so we didn't have to buy it, I just used the same color we had in the house. And it happened to match PERFECTLY.

The Desk: We only had to buy the top piece of wood for the desk and stained it to match everything. This is where the recliners were in the RV. While they provided us with 2 extra seats, it wasn't really practical since the kids always want to sit with us. Now the area is used for our "office" space. Kevin can work there and we can still get all of the school books out without bothering him. I still have to organize the right side of the desk, but it works great for Kevin. The cuby under the desk was in the boys' room and we had all of the fabric bins here too!

The kids room: This area was the most work but still totally no cost! We took a king size bed with storage underneath and made it into what you see below. A custom made top bunk from one of the Ikea beds we had. Stained it to match, wrapped the legs in fabric we had. The bottom two beds are the girls toddler bed mattresses we had here. We cut the king bed base smaller to give more walking room and I covered it with the bedspread that came on the king bed when we bought it. We built a separator between the beds and then built shelves on the side for their waters and such. We did all of that with scrap wood we had here. And I covered them with old towels for padding and then fabric to look nicer. We also built a couple of shelves to hold their radio and DVD player on the other wall with scrap wood we had here and I stained those to match too.

Overall, I'm VERY happy with how everything turned out. Although, I'm sure that we'll be doing a bit of rearranging as we get used to living here.
