Engelheim Vineyards

Oh my! There are not enough nice things to say about Engelheim Vineyards! Gary, the owner was super nice and accommodating. As a harvest host, he allows people to stay at the vineyard for free while promoting his business. However, we are almost 60’ truck and trailer! Some of the places we have been are sketchy and we have trouble fitting in. We really tried with this vineyard, we are just so long it became a challenge. We met Gary and he said he saw us pulling in and knew we would have trouble parking, so he took Kevin back to his house and the barn while I stayed with the kids.

Kevin came back and said he had the perfect spot for us and we were just short enough, if we could make the next turn. Gary said that semis can’t make that turn and he put a rock there because many RV’s have fallen in the ditch. Really? Ok, well, let’s give it a try, right? It’s only our home, lol! But, Kevin did great! He made the turn and we got to our spot next to the house and the barn, overlooking the beautiful vineyard.

After we got settled, we walked to the winery and met some really nice people. I believe that God puts people in our path for a reason and we definitely met some amazing people that evening. The ladies behind the bar doing the tastings, to the people we met while sitting enjoying the wine! I almost wish we would have stayed long enough to give them our card and let them follow our travels, but maybe next time. Yes, the wine was that wonderful.

We met a gentleman named Rich that helped us with a lot of info about Maine and a bunch of other things as well. We will probably even use him when we visit Montana! He had a dog named Ranger, which was sweet, but had a bad reaction to kids at one point, so where did our kids decide to sit? Next to them! But the kids did great and moved slow and were super well behaved. We are so proud of them. They can talk to strangers, but at the same time, sit super still and only talk when spoken to. This full time Rv-ing thing has been such a learning experience for us all, but the kids have grown the most from it for sure!

We would definitely recommend Engelheim Vineyards for an overnight stop, or even just a stop to try the wine if you’re in the area. If you are not a Harvest Host member for overnight stays, I’ll include our link below so you can join!

Walnut Hollow Ranch

This was a Harvest Host stop that turned into so much more! I called and spoke with Charlie, the owner, and decided to upgrade our boondocking with full hookups for 2 nights. We arrived on a Friday, the property was immaculate, quiet and beautiful. We talked on Saturday and decided to stay for a whole week!

We had some friends that came to the area to house shop and decided to surprise us with a visit. We love making friends for this reason! It was such a nice surprise and on our birthday week too, made it even more special.

Walnut Hollow Ranch has a small campground on the property. Some sites are next to a lake, complete with picnic tables and a couple of chairs (those are the cover picture on our Facebook page right now). We had a full hookup site that was on concrete and over looked the cattle that are on the property. He has one horse that the girls fell in love with and a donkey as well. It was so peaceful in the mornings to hear the animals instead of traffic. I also have to think we were the loudest things on the property just talking.

We took walks, did school outside, visited the animals, walked some more, found wild onion, beautiful flowers and of course got a lot of work completed. The nearest town is about 5 minutes down the road, but we didn’t have cell service there. So, we mainly went to Murphy where we had service with T-Mobile. At the ranch, we had Verizon service, which was very fast.

Walnut Hollow Ranch raises grass fed Black Angus cattle. We decided to treat ourselves to filets for our birthdays and it was definitely worth it. Charlie’s prices were very reasonable and the meat is absolutely wonderful. They were the best filets that we’ve ever had. He also ships, so, if you’re interested I’ll post his link below! We even bought more meat before we left for North Georgia. We can’t wait to visit again!

Mercier Orchards

Since we are members of Harvest Hosts, we have access to many different wineries, breweries, farms and golf courses for us to stay at for free with our membership. We have tried using it before, but didn’t work out because it was too hot and we couldn’t get the generator running (South Georgia in the middle of June). Now, we have solar, but still can’t run the air conditioner with it, so we stay places that are cooler. It got a little cool during the night, but we stayed pretty comfortable with the furnace running and the batteries were able to power the fan.

Mercier Orchards exceeded our expectations for our first Harvest Host spot! The view was absolutely wonderful, and we got to enjoy some apple cider and we picked up some apple butter at Kyle’s request. We did a cider tasting, which was wonderful as well and we enjoyed it on their outside patio. A walk around their lake was really relaxing until Hope ran through the mud, lol. We went back to the RV, fixed the kids’ dinner and they got to have a picnic outside. After they ate, we played a board game and got them ready for bed. We put up tents in their room so they could have the battery operated lights inside all night.

Kevin and I got our dinner ready and we enjoyed it outside at sunset, which was absolutely stunning! It was so very peaceful. We had some neighbors that pulled in around 6pm that ran their generator all night, but they were far enough away that it didn’t bother us inside the RV. We got to wake up to the sounds of geese in the lake in the morning. We got to have breakfast and coffee in our French press for the first time in a long time! We took our time getting up and moving since there wasn’t a certain time that we needed to be out of there. We would definitely stay here again and if anyone is interested in joining Harvest Hosts, here is a link for 15% off for you to join:
